Campaign for more midwives
At the Old Buckenham WI meeting held in May the resolution to urge the government to employ more midwives was discussed in detail with Mary Nichols competently taking members through the facts and figures. Members had no hesitation in voting unanimously for ‘Employment of More Midwives’ and the resolution was to be debated and Old Buckenham’s vote registered at the WI Annual General Meeting being held in the Royal Albert Hall at the end of May.
The Old Buckenham WI President, Susan Hunter, then reported on forthcoming events which would include the Jubilee quiz, the annual progressive supper and the Group meeting in September when the BBC’s David Whitely will be the speaker.
To end the meeting members joined in a game of 'Royal Beetle', an appropriate variation of the normal Beetle. This was enjoyed by all and won by Gill Freitag.
The next meeting is on Thursday 28 June when the speaker will be Jonathan (Jacko) Jackson who will be speaking on the work of World Horse Welfare.
