A few random tips for new participants
- Always read the schedule carefully. If it asks for five potatoes, make sure you only put five. Leave six on the plate you won't get any extra marks, you'll just get a NAS (not according to schedule).
- Make sure you have left the calyx on all your tomatoes. That's the green bit where it joins on to the plant. And leave the stalks on your runner beans to prove you didn't buy then from the supermarket.
- Make sure your jam jars and lids do not carry any firm's name or advertising.
- Don't enter your pot plants without cleaning up the top of the soil in the pot. Weeds and even fag ends are not appreciated by the judges.
- Stating the particular variety of a vegetable is a help to both judges and visitors.
- Read the 'Rules for exhibitors' in the schedule through once more before entering your exhibits.
