Paddy fields in Old Buckenham

 Opening up today

Why not go along to the special openings of the new paddy fields along Hargham Road in Old Buckenham. Local farmer Steve has found that his normal crops do not like all the rain and the subsequent flooding of the fields. He will be there to answer your questions up until noon today.

After much research and consultations with the John Innes Institute he has deliberately made sure that some fields are kept flooded and these have now been planted with a suitable type of rice (variety Pool Flairthat should be able to cope with the British summer weather.

This has the added advantage that the paddy fields will store water which could have been causing flooding problems elsewhere. It's a win/win solution for everyone.
