Planting for the future
Yesterday a small group of parishioners, about a dozen and with an average age well over seventy years, arrived to plant seven trees on the Village Green to commemorate the Queen's 70 year rule. Following up on a suggestion from resident Brian Simms seven trees, one for each decade, had been purchased by the Parish Council and were successfully planted. The trees are a tulip tree, a white beam, a bird cherry. a crab apple, an aspen, a white birch and a white (royal) oak. An information plaque giving these details and some seating will be added later. You will be able to sit there and admire the trees maturing as time goes by.
Steve Suggett, who mows the Green, had donated a large sack of Plant Grow which was added to the soil when the trees were installed in the pre-drilled holes. The entire exercise was completed in about an hour. Thank you to all who came to help with the planting.
