Sporty Old Buckenham wins medals

Success at Norfolk Village Games
Last year was the first time that Old Buckenham had entered this county-wide competition and this year's team did even better. Villagers of all ages took part in a wide variety of sporting activities against other Norfolk villages. The young gymnasts trounced the opposition to win their category for the second year running while the short mat bowlers again came second, only losing to the team that eventually won that class. (Note to youngsters in Old Buckenham - the average age of those in the bowls team was over 77 so there is a chance for you yet.)

After the early morning briefing, everyone dispersed around the UEA Sports Park, doing athletics' playing table tennis or badminton, showing their skills at archery and football as well as the gymnasts and bowlers.
The specially-printed T-shirts made a great impression. Soon it was mid-afternoon and everyone got together for the presentation of the various awards with the young gymnasts soon up to collect their trophies. Then to everyone's delight it was announced that Old Buckenham had come third overall in the category for small villages and so it was all up to collect a bronze medal from the organisers. Quite an achievement considering the village did not enter teams for the rounders or darts.

It appears that there will not be a similar competition held during 2017 but still individual sporting competitions where the village can continue to make its mark.
