Future of village newsletter
From the editor:
I intend to continue producing the village newsletter for the rest of 2026, my last
issue coming out at the start of December. There are several reasons for this.
By then I will be 88 years old and everything now needs more effort and takes
longer to do. I make more unforced errors in my work. The software I use is
clever but is years out of date.
If someone else
(or a small team) wishes to start a new newsletter, they will have about half a
year to get things organised. They need not be constrained by the present size,
layout or type faces. They can just start from scratch.
I will help in
any way I can if you would like me to. Most advertisers start their year in
January and all details can be passed on. Other advertisers would have to be
dealt with according to how much of their twelve months of advertising remains.
The £10 monthly sponsorship is booked for all 2026 and I will not be taking any
more for 2027. Advertisers mainly pay by bank transfer, a few by cheque and
some even by cash. There may be some money in the newsletter bank account at
the end of the year that can be handed over.
Contact would
need to be made about distribution to all the properties in
Old Buckenham. The total print run at the moment is 635 copies per month and
the cost nearly £400 per month. The present person who prints the newsletter
would need to receive a print-ready pdf. He will provide a proof if required
and then deliver all copies to one Old Buckenham address.
After 26 years
and 312 issues this will be hard to give up but it gives an opportunity for a
newsletter to continue if the village wants one.
