Lighting up the sky
The Aurora Borealis, or "Northern Lights", were visible across the UK last week. This was a particularly strong occurrence of the phenomena and although the lights are normally only visible in Iceland, Scandinavia or the North of Scotland, this time the lights were visible as far south as Essex. Chris Clarke managed to photograph them from Oaklands in Old Buckenham and has kindly allowed us to use his pictures on the blog.
These two photos were taken on the evening of Thursday 27 February and show a distinct red band of light across the sky to the north across the village Green.
