Fete progress

Getting nearer
On Tuesday 14 June there was a further meeting of those involved with the village fete. At the previous meeting the decision had been taken that all proceeds from the Fete will go towards the Village Hall lighting fund. Since then a request had been received from the recreation area committee for a donation to be made for the use of that area. It was decided to leave the decision on this until the July meeting when it was hoped that a recreation area committee member would attend.
The responsibility for various fete items were discussed including car parking, signs, provision of tables, the sound system, advertising posters, the raffle and the grand draw.
The car boot sale advert has been advertised in the village newsletter and has already attracted some interest with four spaces confirmed so far.
The invitation letters to potential stallholders had gone out and stalls would include bric-a-brac, bookstall, woodwork items, a barbecue, ice creams, teas, cake stall, tombola, spot the ball, splat-the-rat, a bottle stall and a human fruit machine.
The Wymondham and Attleborough Talking Newspaper had booked a stall and hopes to record the memories of the older residents of the village during the war time years (as the date of the fete, the third of September, was “the day war broke out”). The East Cost Truckers have booked a stand and there will be an exhibition of historical Old Buckenham photos and postcards on the hall stage.
Other entertainments will include a dog show (run according to Kennel Club rules and with 13 show classes including some fun ones), Punch and Judy, Kenninghall Morris Dancers, a trampoline, a gun dog demonstration and a painting exhibition in the Memorial Room.
Public car parking will be at the High School, the car boot sale in the Primary School, vintage cars on the Village Hall car park and disabled parking on the approach road to the Village Hall.
The next fete meeting will now be on Tuesday 19 July starting at 7.30pm in the Memorial Room of the Village Hall. This new date should enable detailed information to be put into the August issues of the village magazines.
